Quantum Interference to Measure Spacetime Curvature: A Proposed Experiment at the Intersection of Quantum Mechanics and General Relativity

چکیده
An experiment in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) is proposed to measure components of the Riemann curvature tensor using atom interferometry. We show that the difference in the quantum phase ∆φ of an atom that can travel along two intersecting geodesics is given bymR0i0j/~ times the spacetime volume contained within the geodesics. Our expression for ∆φ also holds for gravitational waves in the long wavelength limit.

A dynamical, non-Euclidean spacetime geometry in general relativity theory implies the possibility of gravitational radiation. Here we explore novel methods of detecting such radiation from astrophysical sources by means of matter-wave interferometers (MIGOs), using atomic beams emanating from supersonic atomic sources that are further cooled and collimated by means of optical molasses. While t...
متن کاملSuperrelativity as a unification of quantum theory and relativity (II)
A underlying dynamical structure for both relativity and quantum theory— “superrelativity” has been proposed on order to overcome the well known incompatibility between these theories. The relationship between curvature of spacetime (gravity) and curvature of the projective Hilbert space of pure quantum states is established as well.
متن کاملQuantum Spacetime and Consciousness
A higher-dimensional spacetime model is proposed, accounting for nonlocal quantum phenomena while embracing Special Relativity as a limiting case. The Aspect and Megidish experiments are explained within this spacetime framework. Time is understood as spatial motion relative to higher dimensions, offering the degrees of freedom demanded by nonlocal effects along with a consistent milieu for Kal...
متن کاملThe emergence of AdS2 from quantum fluctuations
We have shown how the quantization of two-dimensional quantum gravity with an action which contains only a positive cosmological constant and boundary cosmological constants leads to the emergence of a spacetime which can be described as a constant negative curvature spacetime with superimposed quantum fluctuations. Talk given by W. Westra at the Eleventh Marcel Grossmann Meeting on General Rel...
متن کاملکوانتش گرانش و بررسی هندسی مکانیک کوانتمی
We elaborate on some recent results on a solution of the Hilbert-space problem in minisuperspace quantum cosmology and discuss the consequences of making the (geometry of the) Hilbert space of ordinary nonrelativistic quantum systems time-dependent. The latter reveals a remarkable similarity between Quantum Mechanics and General Relativity.
